The items in the kit are produced from aluminum extrusions intended to help the student become familiar with measuring equipment. Appropriate measuring tools include the ruler for rough estimates and either the micrometer or caliper for more exact measurements. The kit items have not been produced for actual testing and the actual dimensions may vary from the ideal. The extrusions have a mill tolerance that varies with the dimension being considered. Table I below gives some of the tolerances for extruded aluminum.
The nominal dimensions of the reduced section are: 1/4” (6.35) thick and 1/2” (12.7) wide.
The nominal dimensions of the reduced section are: 3/16” (4.76) thick and 3/4” (19.05) wide.
The nominal dimensions of the reduced section are: 1/8” (3.18) thick and 1” (25.4) wide.
